The Impact of Travel on Our Products and Stores

As a lifestyle store, HW Home is keenly aware of how people live and what makes them comfortable. There is no better sphere of influence than what I see around me as I experience the day. Whether I am on a trip to Paris, New York, or simply walking the streets of downtown Denver, there are often points of inspiration around me.

As a buyer for HW Home, I am influenced every day by what I see. I carry a notebook and keep a camera at the ready to capture what inspires me. After a recent installation at a home in Florence, Italy, I stayed at a beautiful boutique hotel with the most welcoming lobby I have ever seen. I took some time to study what it was that made me feel the way I did, and discovered it was the simple things that were the most impactful. The unique way the books were stacked on the library shelves brought a feeling of serenity. The colors of the throw pillows on the lobby furniture were distinct, and were sized and styled differently than I had ever seen. Every detail was well-planned and expertly executed. The next collection of throw pillows for True by HW Home borrows some of the interesting elements from my Italian visit.

Denver is also a true source of inspiration. Our serene setting with the mountains framing the horizon make for beautiful sunsets. I often select pieces for the stores that highlight our unique setting. Our natural environment plays a big role in determining the direction I take when selecting wood tones and upholstery color schemes.  The Kipton Sofa from True by HW Home, for example, was created for those who like a simple mid-century design but want the scale of a cozy family room lounge. I covered it for our floors in a comfortable and incredibly durable neutral fabric so it can be enjoyed without worry and will complement our natural surroundings.
